September 17th, 2008

word-style-viewer.jpgAnyone who is proficient in Word probably knows there are many different ways to format and align data within table cells such as using tab stops, margins, padding, cell alignment and indenting.   There are a variety of ways to combine these formatting techniques that can make your tables rather complex.

Our latest release of Q4 PRESS now supports more complex table formatting techniques and here are some Do’s and Dont’s for making sure your table formatting is preserved when you import a document.

DO:

  • use text-indenting, positive margins, positive padding or tab stops in your table cells
  • use the cell alignment property to left, centre or right justify the text within table cells

DON’T :

  • use spaces to acheive alignment
  • use negative margins or indents to try and left justify data

A great tip to check and see how your table is formatted in MS Word  is to hold down the Shift key and press F1 on your keyboard.  That will bring up a property box that will show you what styles are being used in your document.  If you click a table cell in your document, you will see the styles associated with that particular cell.

We have also created a sample document that you can download which explains all of these formatting options.  You can download the sample document here.
